Location

ZILINA

Zilina is a Sign of Zilina city located in the center of Northwest Slovakia at the confluence of the Vah holly trinity churchand the Kysuca rivers. By population, it is the fourth largest city of Slovakia. The town square is surrounded by arcaded burgher houses from the 16th and 17th centuries. Here from spring to autumn time you can enjoy agreeable sitting with coffee-bar and restaurant services. In the historical core of this part the Saint Paul’s church dominates. The Holy Trinitie’sSign of Zilina three-naved church above the Parish stairs is of renaissance character, its tower is 51 metres high and the nearby a Renaissance belfry, the Burian Tower is 5 metres lower.

The most well-known monument in the city and the surrounding areas is Budatin castle, located to the north of the town, above the twoSign of Zilina rivers. The reference dates back to the 14th century, when it was part of the dominion of Matus Cak of Trencin, the lord of Vah and Tatras.Formerly it used to be a water castle.In the 16th century, it was rebuilt in Renaissance style. Sign of Zilina By the 18th century the castle no longer had any military function and a baroque-classical chateau was built over the remains of the fortifications. It was burned during revolution events of 1848 - 1849.The castle was completely reconstructed between years 1920 and 1922 and has survived in this form to the present day. Now it is used as a museum of tinker. Also expositions of the Contemporary interior and the Sacral collections from the 18th and 19th century are presented inside the castle.




University

Sign of ZilinaThe University of Zilina was established inSign of Zilina Prague as the University of Rail Transport in 1953. In 1959 it moved to Zilina and was renamed the University of Transport. As a result of the increasing role of communications within the curriculum and research orientation of the University, in 1980 it was renamed as the University of Transport and Communications. Following wide-ranging changes at the beginning of Sign of Zilinathe nineties, its name was changed to the University of Zilina in 1996. Now, the University of Zilina is a mode rn university providing a Sign of Zilinafull range of technological, economic, management, and a limited range of humanistic and natural science education at under-graduate, gradua te and post-graduate levels. During its existence it has become a reputable institution within the university educational system of the Slovak Republic. At present the University of Zilina consists of seven faculties: Faculty of Operation and Economics of Transport and Communications, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Management Science and Informatics, Faculty of Special Engineering, Faculty of Science and four institutes: Institute of Physical Education, Institute of Forensic Engineering, Institute of Computer Technology and Institute of Lifelong Education.






Zilina surroundings highlights

Strecno

Strecno Strecno castle is situated on the roadZofia bosniakova between Zilina and Martin, 7 km from Zilina. It was built at the turn of the 13th and 14th century to protect a toll station that was located under the castle. In those days it was owned by Matus Cak. In the 17th century Strecno castle was the property of Frantisek Vesseleny, the leader of conspiracy against Habsburgs. His first wife was Zofia Bosniak. She took care of the poor so people of the neighbourhood thought of her as a living saint. She died at the age of 35 and was buried in the castle chapel. When her grave was opened after 45 years from her death, her body was intact. It was later transferred to the church of Teplicka nad Vahom (a village at the edge of Zilina), which became a place of pilgrimage.
The castle was destroyed during the revolt of Imrich Thokoly in the second half of the 17th century and it was in ruins until the second half of the 20th century. After 17 years-long reconstruction, in 1992 Strecno castle was opened to the public, and in 1994 Dragonheart , an American film, was filmed there.



Rajecke Teplice

Sign of Zilina Rajecke Teplice town is located in Sign of Zilinawoodland valley of the fold called Rajecka kotlina. There is situated an attractive spa dated back to the 14th century, where diseases of nervous system, rheumatism, neurastenies, psychostenies and vocational diseases are treated. A healing process is accentuated by an agreeable surrounding of parks and a near by spa lake.





Rajecka Lesna

Sign of ZilinaRajecka Lesna village, until 1948 it has been known as Frivald, is a pilgrim place. Sign of ZilinaIt has a world reputation for the monumental Slovak bethlehem of the folk wood-carver called master Jozef Pekara, it is characterised by typical Slovak architecture and dozens of moving human and animal figures.





Vratna valley

Sign of ZilinaThe Vratna valley is one of the most popular Sign of Zilinacentres of the summer and winter recreation in Slovakia. It stretches below the ranges of the Mala Fatra mountain, declared the National natural park, called Krivanska part. The starting point for the valley is represented by limestone Tiesnavy by the Terchova village, which was established during a typical settling process (formerly it used to be a complex of 120 settlements) and it is a birth-place of Juraj Janosik, a folk revolt hero.






Recreational centre Snowparadise Velka Raca

Sign of Zilina The recreational centre Snowparadise is located in the Oscadnica village on the slopes of the highest peak of the Kysuce region, in the concrete Velka Raca (1236 metres above the sea level). It is one of the best technically well-equiped ski centres of Slovakia. In the part called Dedovka you can find six downhills, in the part called Laliky there are three ones and in the part called Marguska you can enjoy five downhills. The centre of Velka Raca is ambitious about attracting tourists during the whole year
